1. ELIXER: PREPARED TAPE (For the full version of Kontakt 5.8.1+)
Elixer Prepared Tape is the sequel to the highly rated Elixer: The Lost Tapes.
However, instead of using synthesizers, this time around only old audio recordings were used. The result is a diverse, unique, sometimes strange, sometimes quirky set of samples that are inspiring and nostalgic.
And though there has been no concerted effort to emulate the sound of the following artists, those who've been working on audio demos believed the sounds to be influenced by Boards of Canada, Amon Tobin and Olafur Arnalds. However, these artists do not endorse this library. You may hear a different artist when you hear the demos and sounds.
Contents:
1.77GB, 569 files (Most 96khz, 24bit - though sampled from old recordings, which were not this high def)
419 Sound Sources to choose from, organized in 8 Distinct NKIs in the following categories:
Bells
Brass
FX and MISC
Keys
Strings and Orchestra
Synth
Voices
Winds
(also an NKI with ALL of the above instruments included)
From those distinct NKI patches, we’ve created 202 snapshots (not including 9 “Default” snaphsots to get settings back to their initial state).
Update V1 (18 February 2020)
318 files (WAV 96khz, 24bit), 369 MB (uncompressed).
95 New Sound sources added (breakdown below):
Various new sound sources added to the original NKI instruments (65 total)
New NKI patch called “Hybrid” (featuring 30, mostly multisampled sound sources).
These sounds feature samples which are often a cross between two or more instruments (Violin+Cello, or Trumpet+Oboe, and so on)
They aren’t simply “layered” on top of one another, but are actually “fused” together at the sample level. Some of the multisamples sources have this characteristic up and down the keyboard, so that in the higher registers you may hear a cross between a piccolo, trumpet and oboe, but in the middle register, there is only and oboe and trumpet “fusion” – depending on the patch, this may be different. This is also not an exact science, so there is a great deal of variation in how this process is manifest.*
In addition, the decision was made to make an alternative “reversed” NKI for each and every NKI (including the new Hybrid one).
11 total NKIs have been added.
Added Snapshots:
240 snapshots have been added in total (not including “default” snapshots).
This includes 63 new snapshots for the “All Instruments” NKI, 20 snapshots for the new “Hybrid” NKI, 10 snapshots for all of the Reversed NKIs, and 10 snapshots scattered around in various NKIs.
In addition to this, 47 snapshots in various categories have been added by Paul Lebkuchner of Sound Aesthetics Sampling! (they will be designated by a “P -” in the beginning of the snapshot title.)
There have also been 10 new beautiful and compelling Multis added (utilizing many of the new sounds).
2. ELIXER: THE LOST TAPES (For the full version of Kontakt 5.8.1+)
Elixer is a powerful 4 voice instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt sampler.
The samples are inspired by the sound of BOC, with some instruments being created with their specific catalog in mind. However, a lot of experimentation has been done, in order to create sounds which are unique and stand apart from most other BOC style instruments.
Contents:
2.64GB uncompressed (1,730 files, 44.1khz 16bit)
Most sound sources in the instrument category are multisampled, and have a dynamic sound and feel when played polyphonically - not just a single note stretched across the length of the keyboard.
There are 5 sound source categories inside:
1 The Lost Tapes (All sound sources)
2 All 4 In (All sound sources + the same sound source can be placed in up to all 4 slots)
3 Dialogue and FX
4 Instruments
5 Reversed (All sound sources reversed)
Each category contains a selection of presets (snapshots). There are 205 of these snapshots available in total. You can use the snapshots as a starting point for your own sound design or as instant inspiration for your compositions.
Included are extensive randomisation controls. Each page can be randomised (Voices, Modulation, Effects and Movement) or you can randomise individual voice selections.
Elixer and the 'Motion' engine was developed by Divergent Audio Group with Erick McNerney providing the wonderful sound design elements contained therein.
Effects
A comprehensive onboard effects page is included with:
Chorus
Distortion
Lo-Fi
Delay
Filter
Spatial
Convolution Reverb
The randomise button will randomise all effects on the current page
Modulation
Dedicated modulation controls gve you the ability to shape your sound just the way you want it. There are 4 LFOs and 4 Envelopes with 24 destinations to assign them to. Again, the randomise button will randomise the modultion control for the current page.
Movement
The centrepiece of the instrument is the highly creative XY blend control.
This control allows you to blend the levels for each of the 4 voices. We also added a unique Movement control which allows you to automate the movement of the XY control in exciting new ways. You can make the blend control move vertically, horizontally or in a circular motion on the movement page.
This allows you to create sounds that blend exactly how you want them to, in sync with your project.
The movement can be smooth and gradual or instant and choppy so you can set up gradual texture changes or even rhythmic pulses with this simple to use control.
Movement Panel
The Movement panel blend control can be dragged with your mouse while the automation engine plays in real time or you can use the sliders along the edges for precise control. You can also assign midi cc or host automation parameters to the sliders to create complex movements and record the results in your DAW
3. ELIXER: LAID IN EARTH (For the full version of Kontakt 5.8.1+)Elixer: Laid in Earth is based on old recordings of the Opera “Dido And Aeneas” by Henry Purcell. Though it is smaller than the previous two Elixers, it still packs a lot of value and potential.
There is a haunting quality to the sounds, and you can go from somber, sad and lonely, to whimsical, strange and quirky without much effort (among other genres). And of course the overall lofi nature of the sounds and effects can take you a lot of places.
A library with a small footprint, but lots of potential!
